At ICTA, we believe that parents play a vital role in the overall development and success of their child. Without your support, encouragement and caring, young athletes will often not persevere through all the difficulties and hard times. We have established a set of general guidelines to ensure that the player's development is optimized as we care to develop a solid and healthy relationship between yourself and the ICTA.
|
|
THE GUIDELINES ARE:
- Parent visits are encouraged, but are only allowed when scheduled with ICTA. As ICTA is a ministry, not a tennis academy, roving parents are not allowed. Parents who refuse to abide by our guidelines will be asked to leave, the player may be asked to leave as well, and no refund will be given.
- Parents must agree to the tennis and leadership training and competitive plans as set by the ICTA. Any changes to the plan must be received prior to approval.
- While visiting the ICTA camps facilities, parents are required to stay outside the tennis courts during practices unless given permission by the staff. As well, please avoid giving coaching advice during training periods.
- If traveling to a tournament, encourage your child for as much player independence as possible by giving the ICTA coaching staff authority on all competitive matters.
- When watching your child play a match, learn ways to project positive feelings from the sidelines. If parents cannot be positive, optimistic and encouraging during matches, they should stay away. The only exception to this rule is if your child's behavior has become unacceptable in terms of cheating, temper or negativism. In such cases, it is important that you play an active role, projecting disapproval.
- Try not to get too excited when your child wins, or too upset if he/she looses.
- We encourage parents to communicate with us on an ongoing basis. The ideal time period to call the ICTA coaching staff is during lunch time, between noon and 1 p.m. EST.
